This is Ralph Bakshi's 1978 animated version, not to be confused with Peter Jackson's 2001 version.
An ordinary-looking gold ring in the hands of a humble Hobbit turns out to belong to the Dark Lord Sauron...and now he wants it back. Now the Hobbit must join a band of rangers, wizards, and warriors on a quest to destroy the One Ring before the Dark Lord conquers Middle Earth.
